Overview

Treating the cause, not just the symptom

Hair loss affects millions of people and has a significant impact on self-confidence and wellbeing. Before any treatment, it's essential to identify the correct cause — androgenetic alopecia, hormonal imbalance (thyroid, testosterone, iron deficiency), telogen effluvium or other causes each require different approaches.

At Metovia we conduct a thorough clinical assessment and blood panel before prescribing, ensuring you get the right treatment — not just the most popular one.

📋 Causes we investigate

  • Androgenetic alopecia (genetic pattern hair loss)
  • Thyroid dysfunction (hypothyroid/hyperthyroid)
  • Iron deficiency anaemia
  • Hormonal imbalance (testosterone, DHT, oestrogen)
  • Telogen effluvium (stress/illness-related shedding)
  • Nutritional deficiencies (zinc, biotin, vitamin D)

💉 Treatment options

  • Minoxidil topical (men & women)
  • Oral minoxidil (low-dose, supervised)
  • Finasteride 1mg (men — androgenetic alopecia)
  • Dutasteride (off-label for resistant cases)
  • Hormonal optimisation where indicated
  • Referral for PRP or transplant where appropriate

📚 Evidence base

Prescribing is guided by BAD (British Association of Dermatologists) guidelines on alopecia, NICE evidence reviews on minoxidil and finasteride, and emerging evidence on low-dose oral minoxidil. We only prescribe after confirming diagnosis — we do not issue finasteride or dutasteride without a clinical consultation.
